Happy Jesus’ Birthday! What an amazing time of the year! Luke writes about Jesus’ birth and the visit of the shepherds;
and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. –Luke 2:18
We must not cease to be amazed at the great marvels of our God. It is not possible to separate our heart’s holy wonder and our minds amazement from real worship. It is those times when our souls are overwhelmed with the majesty of God's glory that we truly, purely, come and adore Him. Though our mouths may express the feelings of our hearts in song, and our bodies prostrate in humble prayer, yet we are silently, within, amazed. And it is in this inner amazement that the Spirit within us adores Him.
In the same chapter, Simeon worships our incarnate God as “The Savior”, “Wonderful”, “a Light to the Gentiles”, “the Glory of Israel”; and His father and mother were amazed.
WOW! That God should consider us, the sinful, disobedient creatures that we are; and instead of sweeping us away with the fire of destruction, offer to pay His own ransom price to redeem us, is indeed AMAZING! For each of us redemption is most amazing as we view it in relation to ourselves. Salvation is a miracle of grace. That the Son of God should forsake the thrones and royalties above, to suffer ignominiously below for you and me is incomprehensible. It is beyond spoken words.
This Christmas let your soul lose itself in amazement. Allow His Holy amazing-ness to lead you to grateful worship and heartfelt love. Feeling the presence of the mighty God in the gift of His amazing Son, will move our souls into His glorious hope. And if we grasp that Jesus has done such amazing things on our behalf, we will realize that heaven itself is not beyond our grasp, as well as the grasp of our friends. Who can be amazed at anything, once we have been amazed at the manger and the cross? What wonder is left in life after we have seen the Savior? Come let us adore Him! Come with the shepherds, Joseph and Mary before the manger of God…and be amazed.
